Overview

Program Description

The Rulindo Project is a flagship Early Childhood Development (ECD) initiative by KUZA-Kids aimed at strengthening child wellbeing, learning, and holistic development in Rwanda’s Rulindo District. The initiative aligns with the national vision “Umwana wanjye ishema ryanjye” (“My Child, My Pride”) and focuses on supporting children from birth to age six, their caregivers, and local service providers.

Goals and objectives

The KUZA-Kids program is part of a preventive approach with the mission of mobilizing
education and civil society professionals to make concrete gestures by prioritizing the wellbeing and optimal development of early childhood. We start from the Rwandan proverb: “Igiti kigororwa kikiri gito”
In this respect, we propose the establishment of an innovative program to support the
strengthening of the skills of early childhood workers and parents.

Main Features

The Rulindo Project uses a multi-phase, nurturing care approach that blends evidence-based methods with local context and culture. Activities include:

  • Supporting Healthy Child Development

    The program prioritizes the holistic development of young children, addressing cognitive, emotional, social, and physical growth to ensure strong foundations for lifelong learning.

  • Improving Quality of Childcare Services

    We strengthen the skills and capacity of childcare providers, including women already providing care in the community, to deliver high-quality, age-appropriate, and responsive childcare.

  • Continuous Coaching & Mentorship

    Beyond initial training, the program provides ongoing coaching and follow-up support, ensuring that caregivers and providers continuously improve their practices and apply learning effectively.

  • Expanding Access to Quality ECD

    The program works to increase access to quality Early Childhood Development services, particularly for families with limited resources, by supporting community-based and center-based ECD models.

  • Strengthening Parent Provider Relationships

    Strong relationships between parents and childcare providers are promoted to improve responsive caregiving, shared responsibility, and consistency between home and learning environments.

  • Promoting Positive Beliefs & Attitudes

    The program encourages healthy beliefs, attitudes, and behaviors around child development, positive parenting, and early stimulation within families and communities.

  • Empowering Parents & Families

    Parents and caregivers are equipped with knowledge, confidence, and practical tools to support their children’s development, wellbeing, and learning at home.

  • Early Detection of Developmental Challenges

    The program supports early identification of global developmental challenges, enabling timely response, guidance, and referrals to appropriate services.

  • Encouraging Help-Seeking & Referrals

    Families and caregivers are encouraged to seek support early through strengthened referral pathways, ensuring children and families access health, education, and protection services when needed.
